What precautions should be taken for heart patients with a known case history of drug abuse?
Special precautionary measures should be taken for heart patients with a known case history of drug abuse, especially during writing prescriptions. Beta-adrenergic blocking agents (beta blockers) should not be prescribed to patients with a known history of Dexedrine abuse as these Beta-adrenergic blocking agents may increase the chance of high blood pressure and heart problems when taken with Dexedrine whereas amphetamines may cause additive effects, resulting in irregular heartbeat. These are just two examples from a very big list. There are large number of drug interactions that may prove lethal and thus extreme care should be excersised in such cases. Patients should also be honest to their doctors.
