Vitamin B12 is a member of vitamin B complex. As it contains a cobalt ion in its active core, it is also known as cobalamin (or cynocobalamin, that means cobalt containing compounds). Chemically, this vitamin is the most complex of all the vitamins (C63H88CoN14O14P). Its structure is based on a corrin ring, which is similar to prophyrin ring found in heme. This vitamin is exclusively synthesized by bacteria.
