What is the difference between an AABB (American Association of Blood Banks) accredited laboratory tests and a non-accredited laboratory tests?

Accredited laboratories are reviewed and inspected to ensure that the DNA testing processes are being performed correctly and thoroughly. The guidelines for a DNA test to be an accredited paternity test are that DNA sample collection must be witnessed by an impartial third party and proof of identification must be submitted with each sample. Home test kits are not accredited unless they meet the above requirements. Our home paternity test kit does not meet this requirement and is not an accredited test as a result. However, our court-admissible paternity test does meet this requirement, is accredited and comes with complete instructions for the witness. The actual DNA tests are completely identical and the only differences involve the manner in which the DNA samples are collected.
