There is increasing evidence that some men go through hormonal changes as they age. The most common hormone attributed to these male hormonal changes, often called male menopause, is testosterone. Most of the testosterone (98%) is bound to proteins in plasma, leaving only a small amount of free hormone. Testosterone production is regulated by gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) & luteinizing hormone (LH) in a negative feedback system. In a healthy man, there is a slow, continuous, age associated decrease in testosterone levels. It affects about 7% of men younger than 60 yrs and 20% of those older than 60.
