What is hepatitis C?
A liver disease caused by the hepatitis C virus. People infected with the hepatitis C virus may carry it for the rest of their lives. Hepatitis C infection may not show any symptoms until the liver is severely damaged by the virus. The virus can cause cirrhosis, liver cancer and liver failure over a long period of time (20 to 30 years).
