What is ELISA test?
ELISA is a biochemical technique used mainly in immunology to detect the presence of an antibody or an antigen in a sample. It has been used as a diagnostic tool in medicine as presence of various disease specific antigens or antibodies can be detected. In ELISA, an unknown amount of antigen is affixed to a surface, and then a specific antibody is washed over the surface. If this antibody binds to the antigen, it is detected by a secondary antibody which is labeled with an enzyme (like HRP) or a fluorochrome which gives a detectable signal that is quantified using various software applications.
