What are the so-called Date Rape Drugs and how do they work?

Rohypnol and GHB are known as Date Rape Drugs. Rohypnol is a very potent tranquilizer. It is a type of Benzodiazepines which produces a sedative effect, amnesia, muscle relaxation and a slowing of psychomotor responses. GHB stands for Gamma-Hydroxybutyerate which was originally developed as an anesthetic. These are known as a rape drugs because perpetrators reportedly slip it into a victim's drink causing them to blackout. These drugs take away a victim's normal inhibitions, leaving the victim helpless and blocking the memory of a rape or assault.
