Ritalin, (chemical name: methylphenidate) is one of the most common drugs prescribed for ADHD. It is a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant, similar to amphetamines as far as its pharmacological effects are concerned. It works on the neurotransmitter dopamine, and in that respect resembles the stimulant characteristics of cocaine and thus, it is a substance with a large potential for misuse.
