What are the causes of vitamin deficiency?

Deficiency of vitamin B6 occurs rarely. But when it happens, it is usually associated with poor absorption of nutrients in the gastrointestinal tract. It usually occurs as a side effect of certain drugs that inactivate the vitamins by irreversible binding, genetic disorders or mutations that inhibit metabolism of the vitamins, or in cases of starvation.
