If the colonoscope detects abnormal growth in my rectum, does that mean I have colon-rectal cancer?
If such an event happens, the doctor will remove the abnormal growth using the colonoscope. However, the residue will still need to be tested by a pathologist. A pathologist examines the tissue under a microscope to check for cancer cells. This procedure is called a biopsy. Most polyps are benign, but a biopsy is the only way to know for sure.
