How vitamin B6 is associated with Cardiovascular system & heart diseases?
A compound called Homocysteine is an intermediate in the metabolism of methionine. There are two different pathways to metabolize homocysteine. One pathway converts homocysteine back to methionine and other pathway converts it to the amino acid cysteine with the help of two vitamin B6 (PLP)-dependent enzymes. So if there is a deficiency of B6, homocysteine will stay in body and will lead to heart complications.
