In babies, especially in the first month of life, a UTI symptoms can be serious. Newborns are not as able as older children and adults to keep an infection from spreading outside the urinary tract, so their UTIs may lead to more dangerous infections elsewhere in the body. If you think your child may have a UTI, see your doctor.
A UTI in an infant or young child may be a sign that something isn’t normal about the anatomy of the urinary tract. Often the healthcare professional sends the child to get an ultrasound image or other type of scan to make sure the urinary tract is OK.
